Yesterday I also made a recipe for "Classic Yellow Layer Cake" which is in both my America's Test Kitchen Complete Cookbook and my Cook's Illustrated Cookbook. I did not make the frosting that was with this recipe, I just made the usual Betty Crocker-ish Buttercream.
I was really disappointed by the cake. It was dry, dense and chewy. I really want to start making cakes from scratch rather than a boxed mixed, but have yet to find a good homemade recipe.
