Beef Stroganoff

Beef Stroganoff

Yesterday I made Beef Stroganoff not following any recipe. I had a small steak in the freezer to use up. I cut it up in to thin pieces about an inch wide. Seasoned with garlic salt, garlic powder and pepper. Seared in the instant pot in oil and butter. Added chopped mushrooms and diced purple onion to the meat while sautéing. (Purple onion was just because that's what I had on hand that needed to be used up.) After it was browned mostly, I added 1 cup of beef broth and cooked on high for 30 mins. Let pressure release for 10 mins. Then added in a little bit of Wondra flour to thicken it. Then heavy cream, dijon mustard and some sour cream. Served over egg noodles. It was awesome!

I do think I prefer chuck roast cut up for this recipe. But it was still great.

Next time I would add a little cognac, brandy or sherry which I've seen other recipes do. Some soy and a dash of Worcestershire would have been fine too.
