Chinese Beef with Broccoli

I made this recipe for Chinese Beef with Broccoli which came from the June 2011 issue of Food Network magazine. It was really good. Of the many recipes I have tried to make chinese-style food, this was by far the best. And it was easy! Most of the recipes I have tried in the past come out with really tough chewy meat, and not enough flavor. This did seem like maybe it was missing something, but I'm not sure what, maybe some hoisin sauce? I omitted the tomatoes and I used reduced-sodium soy. Next time I would make more of the sauce than called for, I would add more ginger and more garlic. I might mince the ginger as well so it is more distributed through out. I also might add some red bell pepper or some sliced carrots or mushrooms and red pepper flakes. I think you could make this like a pepper steak by using green bell pepper instead of broccoli. Also I bet you could add orange peel to make this like an orange beef. Everyone really liked this. I can't believe how tender the meat was, and I was careful not to over cook it.

I like using the minced ginger in the refridgerated tubes, it has a good flavor but isn't more work.
